Our Bagpipers

Many of our pipers are military veterans and present themselves as such representing the branch of service from which they served in accordance with appropriate military protocols.  Bagpipes offer another emotional layer of respect and gratitude to Military Honors and our pipers take their lead from the Honor Guard Team Leader to insure Military Protocols are kept to the highest traditional standards.  The Highland Bagpipes are our way of remembering and honoring the service and sacrifice of our country’s heroes.  The respect and gratitude all Americans owe our veterans is expressed in our music and each of our pipers feel honored and privileged to play for these great Americans.

John Pierson is the founder and president of Military Honors by the Pipes.  He is a veteran of the United States Air Force having served for eight years with the 304th Rescue Squadron in Portland, Oregon as a Pararescueman and Air Crew Member.  Piping is his way of honoring the service of ten of his Rescue Colleagues who gave their lives in the line of duty.  He has been piping since 2003 and has played at Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, the Air Force Academy, as well as services from national cemeteries to small community cemeteries.  He is a regular piper at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mark McIntire: Mark is the Director of Piping for Military Honors by the Pipes.  Mark has played for almost 20 years and is a very accomplished piper.  As our Director of Piping he insures the respect owed to our veterans through our music is of the highest quality possible.

Steve Tank is a pilot with Alaska Airlines, retired from 25 years as a pilot with the US Air Force Reserves and formerly a Captain and Paramedic with West Pierce Fire & Rescue in Washington State.  Through his many years of service in emergency response in

both local fire departments and military aviation Steve brings great credibility to Military Honors by the Pipes.

Steve Cluff is not only retired from Army Special Forces but served with the Air Force as a Pararescueman.  Steve is one of our special projects pipers and is our East Coast Piper for services at Arlington National Cemetery.
